Mrs. Pamela Sue Crose, 82, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 4:20 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 1, 1944, in Galesburg, Pam was the cherished daughter of W.W. “Bill” and Nedra Irene (Ott) Bent. A lifelong resident of the community she loved, Pam built a life centered on faith, family, and caring for those around her. On June 19, 1965, she married the love of her life, Richard C. Crose. Together they shared 61 years of marriage, creating a lifetime of memories marked by devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment.
Pam’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She leaves behind her loving husband, Richard of Galesburg; her daughter, Sarah Lynn (Kurt) Nelson of Pekin, Illinois; her son, John Richard (Natalie) Crose of Davenport, Iowa; and her six treasured grandchildren: Ashley Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Megan (Brock) Madson, Breslin (Nathan) Jones, Brenden Crose, and Braylin Crose. Whether attending a game, school event, or simply celebrating life’s everyday moments, Pam delighted in encouraging each grandchild and took genuine interest in everything they did. Their accomplishments were her greatest source of pride.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Karen Bent, and her nephew, Jason Bent.
Pam graduated from Galesburg High School with the Class of 1962 before attending beauty school in Peoria, where she earned her beautician’s certificate. Although she worked as a beautician for a short time, she later found fulfillment working at the former Jack’s Discount, Tucker Swanson Realtor, and eventually the Knox County Recorder’s Office, where she retired after years of dedicated service.
Faith was the cornerstone of Pam’s life. A devoted member of Covenant Church since the age of eight, she faithfully served her church family in countless ways over the years. Her quiet kindness, dependable spirit, and generous heart touched many lives, and she remained actively involved until health challenges required her to step back.
And then there was one delightful mystery that brought smiles to everyone who knew her: despite having no obvious connection to New York, Pam was an enthusiastic New York Yankees fan. Even her family could never quite explain how that allegiance began, but it became one of her endearing trademarks and a source of good-natured teasing through the years.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel, with Rev. Stephen Wysong officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery.
