Just like humans, your family pets can experience seasonal allergies too. Hometown Veterinary Service Owner and Veterinarian Sydney Hennenfent says now is a good time to discuss treatment options:
“When the ragweed count starts to go up, and the grass and pollen, and those sorts of things, we see an increase in dogs that have seasonal allergies. It also seems in the fall when people start picking corn and that dust gets high, they can be allergic to that too. There are a lot of environmental factors that dogs can have allergies to, the same as people,” says Hennenfent.
“There are a lot of different options out there to treat allergy dogs. There are some over the counter options. Most dogs don’t respond to the over the counter treatments, unfortunately, and so talking to your vet about prescriptions allergy treatments is important,” Hennenfent adds.
If you notice your dog or cat persistently scratching, licking, or dealing with irritated skin, allergies could be the cause.
