United Way Steps Up for Local Food Pantries

United Way of West Central Illinois made an immediate impact during our Stuff the Pantry event last week. After learning the FISH Food Pantry was nearly out of food, Executive Director Jeannie Weber says they stepped in to help.

“We’re going to be giving a check to River Bend Food Bank for $10,000 as a result of our work with the Taste of Galesburg. Madison, Anthony, and Anthony’s team from Carl Sandburg College did a lot to get us there by selling raffle tickets. We’re also going shopping as soon as we’re done with this interview to buy food for the FISH Food Pantry because we were just told they’re almost out of food. United Way does things like this for agencies that have emergencies. We’re going to buy enough food to get FISH through the weekend, and next week they’ll have food credits from the check we’re giving to River Bend Food Bank.”

The $10,000 donation will go to River Bend Food Bank and help support local food pantries across the region.
