The 88th annual Old-Timers Softball Game is coming up this Sunday, August 9th, at Monmouth Park.
Anyone 45 and older is invited to play, while fans of all ages can come out for a fun afternoon at the ballpark, shares Committee Chairman Tom Glenn.
“It’s at Monmouth Park, which is out on the east side of the airport at Highway 34 and 11th Street. We’ll start at 3:30 with batting practice, then we’ll start our ceremony at 4:30. The game will get started at 5:00, right after the team picture. It’s such a fun event. You see both sides lined up on the third-base and first-base sides, and the stands get full. It’s really fun to watch these athletes still give it a go. Some of them are pretty good. We have some home runs and some good rivalries between the pitchers.”
The ceremony will include the traditional laying of the bats to remember former players who have passed away since last year’s game. Anyone interested in playing, helping out, or just watching a fun ballgame can head to Monmouth Park Sunday beginning at 3:30 PM.
