What a great start to the season for the Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team last Friday night. The Tornadoes pounded 2025 playoff qualifier West Hancock at home, 41-12. The offensive line of Dax and Deacon Anderson, Tim Serven, Bentley Putman, Drake Allison and Brian Outlar opened big enough holes to rush for over 470 yards. A-Town had two running backs run for well over 200 yards. Ryker Darst hauled the rock 19 times for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Carson Stenger ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Tornado head coach Rick Quinn gave some credit to new offensive line coach and former United Red Storm head coach David Milroy who has joined Quinn’s staff this year. He also said it was a tremendous team effort, as well.
The Tornadoes hit the road for the first time this season on Friday. The competition ramps up a bit, as A-Town heads to Annawan to take on perennial power, Annawan/Wethersfield. A/W went (11-1) last year, before losing 42-20 in the quarterfinals to the eventual state champs, Lena-Winslow. The Titans are off to another strong start, shutting out Elmwood-Brimfield 36-0 last Friday in their season opener. A/W has Coach Quinn’s full attention this week.
The A-Town vs. Annawan/Wethersfield game will kickoff at 7:00 on Friday night in Annawan.
