Armond J. Akey,91, of Monmouth, IL passed away on August 26, 2026. 

Armond was born June 13, 1935, in Chicago, IL, the son of Jack and Emily (Pillath) Akey.  He was raised and educated in Crown Point, IN, later graduating with a B.S. in Marketing from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Amond married Besty Ann Bacon in Sheboygan, WI on August 19, 1961, and she passed away on June 5, 2025.

Armond served with the United States Army Infantry Airborne earing the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Armond worked as the store manager for Montgonery Ward in Houghton, MI and later Streator, IL.  He worked as the sales manager at WRAM in Monmouth, co-owned and managed KIMI in Keokuk, IA, later working in sales at WHBF in Rock Island and lastly at WQAD-TV in Moline before retiring in 1997.

Armond was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, serving as Deacon and Elder as well as singing in the Choir for 48 years, He served as President of the Monmouth Country Club and Exchange Club.  He was also a member of the local Bridge group, Monmouth Rotary, Gibson Woods and Monmouth Kiwanis.  Armond was also a census taker and election judge for several years He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and traveling, where he and Betsy went to Europe, Mexico, Bahamas, Canada and Alaska.

Survivors include his daughter, Lanette (Tim) Schuster of Jim Falls, WI; his son, Dean (Eileen) Akey of Louisburg, KS; grandchildren, Clay Akey, Emma Taylor, Aaron Grieger, Brooke Grieger, and great granddaughter Penelope Grieger; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betsy Akey, brother, John Akey; in-laws, George and Molly Bacon; sister-in law, Bonnie Dickleman; brother-in-law, Jay Bacon; nephew, Tim Akey and niece, Michelle Wolfe.Memorial services with Military Honors will be 4:00 pm, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth.  Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm prior to the services at the Church.  Memorials may be given to the Faith United Presbyterian Church and sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
