Clayton Russell Dean, 72, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. Born on November 16, 1953, Clayton lived a life defined by service, hard work, family, generosity, and an unmistakable sense of humor.
Clayton proudly served his country, spending four years in the United States Marine Corps, four years in the National Guard, and four years in the United States Army. After completing his military service, he built a long career as a truck driver for various companies before eventually retiring.
While Clayton was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family, his greatest joy was the people he loved. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 50 years, Mary Eva Dean, and was a steady, generous presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Clayton had an open-door policy and was always willing to help, making sure that the people around him were taken care of. If someone needed something, Clayton did what he could to make it happen.
He will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, his ability to make people laugh, and the many simple traditions that made time with him special. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, deer hunting, making his famous deer jerky, baking, and enjoying a Budweiser. He made an excellent Spanish rice, and there was almost always ice cream waiting in the freezer for his great-grandkids. One of his greatest joys was baking treats for them and seeing them enjoy the things he made.
Clayton’s love was often shown through what he did rather than what he said. He provided, he shared, he welcomed people into his home, and he made sure no one left without being taken care of. His kindness, humor, stubbornness, generosity, and unforgettable personality will live on in the countless memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
Clayton was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Dean; his father, John Dean Sr.; his brother, John Dean Jr.; and his daughter, Cassidy Dean.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Eva Dean; his sister, Gail Sage; his brothers, Bernard Dean and his wife Laura, Darren Dean, and Charlie Dean; his step-children, Quinton Lovitt, Greg Lovitt, Ted Lovitt, and son Michael Dean; as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Clayton leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and family. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created—from a freezer stocked with ice cream to a plate of homemade treats, a fishing trip, a card game, a sarcastic remark, or simply an open door—will continue to bring smiles and comfort to those who loved him.
Rest easy, Grandpa. Your door may be closed now, but the one you opened for everyone else will never be forgotten.
A small gathering of family and friends will be held at a date determined by the family. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
