Galesburg Post 285 put together a summer to remember, finishing the season 22-8 and taking third place at the Illinois American Legion State Tournament.
Post 285 also captured their first Division Tournament title since the program restarted back in 2022. Head Coach Andrew Thomas says when he looks back on the season, the memories this group made stand out the most.
“I’ve tried to spend some time just reflecting on this year a little bit. I always find myself going back to some of the memories. This group was a joy to be around. I’ve mentioned their character many times throughout the interview, but the amount of fun that these guys had, I just hope they remember how special this group was. It was as tight-knit of a group as I’ve been around, and that’s probably why they won so many games.
I hope they look back on how we treated them, how they treated each other, the people in the program, and the memories they made rather than Noah hitting five home runs against one team in a year. Winning this trophy was, of course, a cherry on top, but I just hope they remember all the fun stuff they did. Going tarps off in Omaha, getting on TV a bunch, our starting catcher convinced an umpire he didn’t even speak English one game. We ran a dummy call on a trick play, and our centerfielder was screaming at our guys. Just some of those little things, some of the funny memories in the hotel and on our road trips, that I hope they remember more than anything.”
