Genelda Rose Hopping, 69, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2026, at her home.

Genelda was born December 7, 1956, in Galesburg, the daughter of Soloman Eugene “Gene” and Inelda (Myers) Hopping. She graduated from Cuba High School.

Genelda worked for Safeway Corporation in Colorado for many years before returning to the Galesburg area.

She is survived by her brothers, Rick Hopping of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Kenneth Hopping (Bill Hattel) of Frederick, Colorado; her nieces and nephews, Cecilia, Aubrey, and Adian; Nathan Hopping and family; Jacob Hopping and family; and Scott Eckman and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Monica Westfall.

Cremation rites will be accorded, with burial to take place at Abingdon Cemetery beside her parents.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Abingdon Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
