Mr. Gregory Gene Taylor, 76, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 4:12 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on August 9, 1950, in Galesburg to Lloyd and Frances E. (Crothers) Taylor. He married Cynthia M. “Chicken” Goodman on February 14, 1968, in Galesburg.

Surviving is his wife, Cynthia M. Taylor of California; three daughters, Feietta Cormier of Palmdale, California, Fayetta Taylor of Inglewood, California, and Michelle “Mia” Brannon of Galesburg; one brother, Richard (and Sandra) Taylor of Texas; two sisters, Beatrice Peoples and Ella Boyd, both of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Cindy Taylor of Galesburg; three grandchildren; four great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Greg Jackson who was his caretaker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scotty Goodman; a grandchild; four brothers, Charles Taylor, Lloyd Taylor, Dewey (and his wife Elizabeth) Taylor, and Paul (and his wife Nadine) Taylor; three sisters, Wanda Coleman, Freedonia (and her husband Watsy) Ewing, and Marietta (and her husband James) Jackson; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Peoples and Reverend Harold Boyd.

Greg graduated from Galesburg High School in 1968. He worked as a hostler for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and later worked as a custodian for area nursing homes until his retirement in 2002.

Greg was an exceptional athlete during high school, playing basketball and football for the Galesburg Silver Streaks. He enjoyed playing pool and fishing. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

As Greg requested, cremation will be accorded. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel with Reverend William Greene officiating. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
