Ada Kunkle of Warren County won the gilt show at the Western Illinois Throwdown on August 8. Kunkle, who also won the gilt show at the Warren County Fair, competed against 12 other western Illinois county fair winners.
“I was honestly shocked. My jaw was probably on the ground. I was like, ‘Wait, me? Are you sure?’”
Kunkle, who has shown pigs through 4-H for six years, said competing at the Throwdown was an experience she had always wanted.
“It was a very exciting experience, I would say. Also, like, very emotional, because I’ve shown for six years now, so it was really cool to see that we get to go to the Throwdown. It’s always been a wish of mine to be able to go and experience all the high competition there.”
Kunkle will continue her show season at the Illinois State Fair, where she will exhibit a gilt and a barrow alongside her brother.
