Another school year has begun for students in the West Central School District, and the Board of Education recently held their monthly meeting where Superintendent Eric Lawson presented the tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2027:
“Fund balances look very healthy, very happy with how things are looking there. Although, we are deficit spending in some key funds, the Ed Fund, O&M Fund, and Transportation. I’ll hit on transportation because all school districts in the state of Illinois are struggling transportation wise because of the lack of reimbursement from the state. At West Central, we cover a lot of square miles and every time we fire up a bus, and it rolls out of our parking lot, we are losing money and that is a struggle. We have to continue to heavily rely on our levy to try and balance those funds out as much as we possibly can,” says Lawson.
“Our Ed Fund and O&M Fund, we just have to be fiscally responsible and cognizant of the money that we are spending in those funds,” Lawson adds.
Prior to the next Board of Education meeting for the West Central School District on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6pm, a Budget Hearing will be held beginning at 5:30 pm.
