This Saturday, August 15th, the Warren County Bicentennial Celebration is being held at the Warren County History Museum. Executive Director Dr. Eugene Watkins previews the afternoon event:
“It is Warren County Bicentennial Celebration, bicentennial meaning 2025. It is the remembrance of the formation of Warren County. The capital of Illinois at that time was Vandalia and they were marking out the maps and dividing up territory, although the first settlers did not move into this area until 1827. It is 200 years, 1825 to 2025,” informs Dr. Watkins.
“The Monmouth Municipal Band will be there to provide some musical entertainment. There will be a slideshow that has a lot of really interesting pictures of different communities in Warren County. Then there are speakers that are lined up for this, Mayor Rod Davies will be there, Sheriff Martin Edwards, State Senator Mike Halpin, State Representative Dan Swanson, Tom Best, Buster Kellogg, John Turnbull, and Justin Allaman,” Dr. Watkins adds.
The Warren County Bicentennial Celebration, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 1 to 4 pm.
