Farmers in McDonough County are heading to the fields for the 2026 harvest on varying schedules. McDonough County Farm Bureau Manager Leah Moorman says farmers throughout the county experienced unpredictable weather conditions, putting farmers on their own timelines.
“We’ve got a few farmers already heading out. They’re ambitious. They’re getting going. We’ve got a couple of guys already in the field for beans. Some are already in the field for corn. Everybody’s kind of on their own timetable this year,” says Moorman. “It seems like, with how interesting our spring was in terms of that heavy rain and then no rain and then more heavy rain, kind of unexpected. So we’ll see how that all pans out.”
As harvest gets underway, Moorman is reminding farmers to take their time, prioritize equipment safety, and stay safe throughout the season.
