As farmers return to the fields for harvest, Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat is reminding motorists and farmers to slow down and stay alert around farm equipment and grain bins:
“Keep in mind that those farmers are on the road. Slow down when you get behind them. They can’t drive the speeds that we are driving, and the equipment is much bigger, and has a lot more blind spots. Keep that in mind when you are coming up behind one of those tractors or combines. Try to stay out of their way, stay visible to them, and wait until it is safe to pass,” says Chief Rexroat.
“The farmers themselves, when around grain bins, or cleaning them out, or breaking up some of that grain that has been stuck in there, keep in mind when you go in there, make sure you have somebody with you that can notify somebody. Be very careful when you are doing whatever you are doing,” Chief Rexroat adds.
Additionally, Chief Rexroat informs the fire department has received a grant from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to purchase new air packs.
