Mrs. Rhoda Ellen Cherrington, 92, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 7:02 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on January 22, 1934, in Knoxville, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond L. and Rhoda Ellen (Fuller) Frambes. She married W. Bruce Cherrington on December 24, 1951, in Galesburg.

Surviving is her husband of 74 years, Bruce Cherrington of Galesburg; one son, David Cherrington of Galesburg; three daughters, Denise Richards of Galesburg, Dorene Murfin of Galesburg, and Diane Peterson of Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Dave Richards and George Peterson; a daughter-in-law, Deanne “Dee” Cherrington; two brothers, Earl “Jack” Frambes and John Frambes; and three sisters, Shirley Erickson, Phyllis Whiteside, and Mary Ann Dawson.

Rhoda attended Galesburg schools and continued her education at Carl Sandburg College, where she received her real estate license. Throughout the years, she worked at Klines Clothing Store, Karmel Korn, Outboard Marine Corporation/Gale Products Division for 7 ½ years, and Admiral/Maytag for 7 ½ years. Most of all, she took pride in being a homemaker and caring for her family.

Rhoda was a member of First Church of God in Galesburg since 1950. She was very active in her church and served as the Corporate Chairperson. Rhoda had a gift for hospitality. She always had her door open, welcoming family and friends for dinner or simply to sit down and share a conversation. She was known as the best pie baker and loved baking pies for her family and friends. Most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her family.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, at First Church of God in Galesburg, with Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
