Monday brought two separate incidents for Seaton Fire and both scenes currently remain active.
Crews responded to a motor vehicle incident near 140th Avenue that sent the driver and sole occupant to the hospital with injuries and resulted in a hazardous materials spill. The Office of Emergency Management is leading the cleanup effort, with the EPA involved throughout the response and approving the mitigation measures currently in place.
Residents may continue to see crews working in the area over the next several days as efforts continue to contain the spill and protect nearby waterways.
Seaton Fire also responded to a grain bin fire Monday. That scene remains active as crews await the removal of the remaining grain before operations can be completed.
After a busy start to the week, we want to take another opportunity to remind everyone to slow down and stay focused behind the wheel. It doesn’t take a cell phone to become distracted. A moment of inattention can have serious consequences, so give yourself time, pay attention to the road, and get where you’re going safely.
We also want to take a moment to stand with the farmers in our community. Harvest is long, exhausting work, and the hours you put in rival and often exceed our own. We know there are crops to get out and weather windows to beat, but please take care of yourselves along the way. Rest when you can, watch out for one another, and don’t let the pressure to get the job done outweigh getting home safely.
