We will once again have two games on Prairieland Media Sports tonight, with both United and Monmouth-Roseville looking to break into the win column in Week 3.
Starting with the United Red Storm, United fell to 0-2 last week after dropping a 38-24 battle to Illini West. The Red Storm led 12-8 at halftime and extended that lead to 18-8 in the third quarter before the Chargers were able to take control down the stretch.
Despite the loss, United rushed for more than 200 yards and Head Coach Andrew Goodwin says there were plenty of improvements from Week 1.
Now the Red Storm turn their attention to a Stark County squad that enters tonight at 2-0 after knocking off Farmington last week.
Coach Goodwin says United will have another tough challenge in front of them.
“I don’t like having a third Hall of Fame coach in a row. It’s a tough division for sure, and next week we will face a fourth.
You see they’re 2-0. They’ve played good at a lot of points in time. They gave Farmington fits and beat them last week. We’ll have to be ready in every facet. Coach Noard does a fantastic job, and you’ve seen it with his record and his 20-plus years of experience over at Stark. His kids play hard, and they don’t make a lot of mistakes. They will present challenges in all facets of the game for us.”
United will be at home for the second straight week. Kickoff has been moved back from the scheduled 7:00 to 7:30 due to the heat. We will have the broadcast on WRAM AM 1330, FM 95.7 and radiomonmouth.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30.
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans will also be looking for their first win of the season tonight as they hit the road to take on Mercer County.
The Titans fell to 0-2 last week after a tough 56-8 loss to Rockridge. Monmouth-Roseville struggled to get things going offensively and spent much of the night on defense against a talented Rockets squad.
The Titans now turn the page to a Mercer County team that enters at 1-1. The Golden Eagles picked up an overtime win over Hall in Week 1 before falling to Princeton 49-14 last week.
Head Coach Jeremy Adolphson says he believes tonight could be the night things start to turn for his team.
“I really do think tonight is a night that we’re going to get things going. I believe that with everything I’ve got, and I will believe it until it happens. I think tonight is a night it’s going to happen. I think we’re going to see some kids that are going to build confidence in themselves, and throughout the game they’re going to get better and they’re going to get stronger. You’re going to see a team that’s ready to roll the rest of the year. But right now, the rest of the year is going to be 48 minutes at George Pratt Memorial Field. That’s all that matters right now.”
