The Monmouth-Roseville cross country team wrapped up its season Saturday at the regional meet at Spring Lake Park in Macomb.
Hayleen Hernandez led the Titans on the girls side, finishing 22nd with a personal-best time of 22:42.2. Hernandez came just short of advancing to sectionals, finishing as the first individual runner outside of the qualifying spots and just five seconds away from moving on.
Rebekah Juan-Mayes also set a new personal best, finishing 35th in 23:55.3. Jules Perez finished 47th in 25:49, while Patricia Kapesa placed 53rd with a personal-best time of 26:22.3. On the boys side, Love Kapesa finished 48th with a time of 20:13.9.
The young group showed a lot of promise throughout the season, giving the Titans plenty to build on moving forward.
Attention now turns to the Monmouth-Roseville volleyball team, the lone Titan fall sport still playing.
The Titans wrapped up the regular season last week with a 2-1 win over Kewanee on Monday before falling 2-0 to Riverdale on Tuesday.
Monmouth-Roseville will see Kewanee again tomorrow night in the Regional Semifinals. The Boilermakers earned the three seed, while the Titans come in as the six seed.
Athletic Director Jeremy Adolphson says last week’s comeback win should give the Titans some confidence heading into the rematch.
“Great win against Kewanee last week. Came from behind to win games two and game three, and looked great. That’s a big time win because that’s who they play in the regional tomorrow, Kewanee, for a chance to get to the regional championship.”
Monmouth-Roseville and Kewanee will play at 7 PM tomorrow night, following the 6 PM semifinal between Mercer County and the winner of the Sherrard and Peoria Manual quarterfinal matchup, which will be played at Sherrard tonight.
The winners will meet Thursday night at 6 PM for the Regional Championship.
