The West Central Heat are one win away from finishing off a perfect regular season.
West Central improved to 8-0 last Friday night with a 54-30 win over St. Thomas More on Senior Night. The Heat continued to have success on the ground, with Aidan Garner rushing for more than 200 yards and four touchdowns.
The Heat will now close out the regular season on the road against Ashton-Franklin Center. AFC enters at 1-7, but with the postseason right around the corner, West Central still has plenty to play for as they look to finish 9-0 and put themselves in the best spot for playoff seeding.
Head Coach Jason Kirby says his team knows what is at stake heading into the final week.
“Our kids know what’s at stake. I think they’re excited about playing. They love getting on a charter bus and going on a trip. They love getting some cheeseburgers after the game if they do well. Stopping by McDonald’s and getting 150 cheeseburgers for our guys on the ride home is always a good time. And we’re hopeful that we get to do that like we have so far this season. I’ve just been really proud of our guys and all the growth that they’ve had.”
Ashton-Franklin Center has struggled this season, but they do have a couple of players West Central will have to keep an eye on.
The Heat will make the trip to Ashton-Franklin Center Friday night looking to complete an undefeated regular season and improve to 9-0 before turning their attention to the postseason.
