Betsy Lee Christy, 76, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

Born January 2, 1950, in Cave City, Kentucky, Betsy was the daughter of Harley Dick Hester and Marion Jane Neeley. Betsy spent many years working at Maytag before retiring to spend her days with her beloved late husband of 31 years Terry Christy.

Betsy was a woman whose heart and home were always open to others. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and important. Whether it was helping a friend, offering advice, making a phone call to check on someone, or simply opening her home, Betsy was always there when someone needed her. She had a way of making everyone feel special and never hesitated to care for others, even those who weren’t family by blood. She mothered many children who weren’t her own and treated them with the same love and kindness she gave her family.

Betsy enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and had a deep passion for supporting the Special Olympics. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends and took great joy in caring for those around her. Her compassion extended to animals as well, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand or provide a little extra love wherever it was needed. Above all, Betsy will be remembered for her generous spirit, her welcoming nature, and the countless ways she made a difference in the lives of others.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Woody (Natsiri) Christy of Las Vegas, Nevada; James Christy of Galesburg; Max (Paige) Christy of Dunlap; C.J. Christy of Monmouth; Robert Christy of Monmouth; Cynthia Adwell of Monmouth; and Stephanie Christy of Kirkwood. She is also survived by her brothers, Glenn (Louise) Hester and Larry Hester, both of Kentucky; her sister, Mildred Llewellyn of Utah; six grandchildren, Nichole, Chance, Tristan, Charlie, Judah, and Maven; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Leslee; a beloved niece, Sherry Murphy, and many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and other loved ones, including her daughter, Lynn Christy; three sisters, Mary Lou, Dixie, and Carol; two brothers, Herschel and Darrell; and her adored and cherished dog, Loki

Betsy leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness. She was the person who showed up, lent a hand, offered a listening ear, and made room at her table for one more. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, but the memories she created and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
