The Monmouth College baseball team lost both of their games to Elizabethtown College on Sunday in Fort Pierce, Florida. The Scots have Monday off before returning to action with a Tuesday double header.
In the opening game the Scots were held to two hits, both singles. Nate Melvin (Ottawa, Illinois) had one of the singles while Daniel Lummus (New Port Richey, Florida) had the other. Logan Komater (Ottawa, Illinois) had a stolen base while the Scots drew six walks in the game.
Tim McNally (Paw Paw, Illinois) started on the mound for the Scots. E-town scored three runs in the second and one in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. They added three unearned runs against Tyler Sears (Bloomington, Illinois) in the sixth inning.
In the nightcap, Elizabethtown scored two runs in the first inning against Cade Sharp (Aledo, Illinois) and two more in the third. The Scots had five hits in the second game, all singles. Clayton Matkovic (Sherrard, Illinois) had two of the hits and Melvin had another single as well. Todd Fowler (Chatham, Illinois) and Toby Turnquist (Monmouth, Illinois) also had singles.
Sharp pitched 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and Riley Jennings (Knoxville, Illinois) finished the game with one run allowed.
The Scots play two 7-inning games against Norwich University on Tuesday at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. The first game starts at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
