Farmers in west central Illinois have been taking advantage of the calm weather the 2024 harvest season has brought to get out in the fields. When harvesting soybeans, local farmer Mike Moore says he didn’t know what to expect before getting into the fields.

“We had one field by my house that had sudden death syndrome, fairly bad. I was very surprised at how well it yielded. It was probably 20-25, bushels better than I thought it would be, with it having sudden death in it. So, our bean yields are were good,” says Moore. “The only downside is we didn’t have a lot of moisture, and the beans dried down quickly. So we were picking 10, 11 percent beans instead of 13, 14 percent beans.”

Overall Moore says he was pleasantly surprised with the yields he has been getting.
