After being postponed for a day, the Lincoln Trail Conference finished up its girls basketball championship tournament on Thursday night. The 3rd place and title games were played at Wethersfield High School in Kewanee.
The United Red Storm took on the Knoxville Blue Bullets for 3rd place in the first game of the night. United storms back from a 17-9 deficit at the end of the 1st quarter to get a 51-34 win. After giving up 17 points in the first 8 minutes. United holds Knoxville to 17 points in the final 24 minutes. Alexa Anderson and Katie Flynn each score 14 points to lead United. Rosie Flynn was also in double figures for the Red Storm with 10. Ella Hubard has 12 to lead the Blue Bullets. United ends the regular season at (27-4). Knoxville will go into the postseason at (13-13).
It was another comeback in the championship game. The tournament host Wethersfield Flying Geese led the state’s 2nd ranked 1A team, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes by five points at the half at 22-17. The Tornadoes would start the third quarter on a 15-0 run and would eventually outscore the Geese 18-1 in the period. A-Town holds on in the fourth quarter to take home the tournament championship trophy by a final score of 54-48. Kennedy Quinn leads now (26-4) A-Town with 21 points. Wethersfield ends the regular season at (24-5). They were led by 20 points from Lana Scott.
