David M. Lee, (affectionately known as MOB by his grandchildren), 83, of Monmouth, IL passed away at his home on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, surrounded by family.

David was born on March 14, 1942, in Monmouth, IL, the youngest son of James B. and Grace Leona (Meleney) Lee. He was raised and educated in the Little York area, graduating from Little York High School, in the last graduating class, in 1960.

He married Mary B. Hughes of Little York on September 24th, 1960, in Monmouth, IL, and she survives.

David worked for Wells Pet Food and Butler Manufacturing for a number of years before working for Monmouth Metal Culvert, from which he retired in 2007.

An avid pitch player, David could often be found playing up at Danny’s with his friends, and later at the home of one of his friends. His sons and grandsons learned to love the game as much as he did, and many fun and argumentative games were played around the dining room table. Another interest of David’s, which he enjoyed doing with his boys, was hunting. In retirement, David could be found outside mowing his yard and tending to his garden, ~ of which he took both great pride and frustration in. David was most proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved to tease and watch play.

Surviving David is the love of his life, his wife of almost 65 years, Mary of Monmouth; his sons Todd (Jacki) Lee and Bruce (Kathleen) Lee of Monmouth; his son Cary (Shawnda Mettler) Lee of Kirkwood, IL; grandchildren Jennifer Lee, Micheal Lee, Brandon (Tana) Lee, Breayn (Josh) Klausing, Kelsey (Corbin) Shepherd, Kathryn (Tucker) Shepherd and Jackson (Becky) Lee; step grandchildren, Randi Mitchell and Josh (Tilliea) Brown; 10 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren; sister Juanita (Hod) O’Hern of Sarasota, FL; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, William and Melba Hughes, brother Bill Lee, sisters Rosemary Kloskey and Doris Woodward, several brothers and sisters-in- law and nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been accorded. No services are planned at this time. A private family interment at Warren County Memorial Park will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
