Western Illinois University Football is excited to announce the addition of Torrence Brown to the Leathernecks coaching staff as the new Defensive Line Coach.

Brown brings a strong background in defensive football and player development, along with valuable experience across multiple collegiate programs. Most recently, he served as a Defensive Graduate Assistant at Marshall University, where he joined the staff in March 2022 and contributed to the development of the defensive front.

Prior to his time at Marshall, Brown held the role of Defensive Line Coach at Eastern New Mexico University during the 2021 season and at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire from 2020 to 2021. In both positions, he was instrumental in coaching defensive line techniques, managing recruiting efforts, and analyzing practice film to support team performance.

A former standout defensive end at Penn State, Brown played in 30 games for the Nittany Lions from 2014 to 2018, recording 52 tackles, two sacks, and a touchdown. After his time at Penn State, he used his final year of eligibility at Southern Mississippi, appearing in eight games and adding nine tackles and a pass deflection to his collegiate résumé.

Following his playing career, Brown transitioned into coaching as a student assistant at Penn State, where he contributed to defensive game planning, film analysis, and player development.

Brown earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management from The Pennsylvania State University in 2018.

“Coach Brown came highly recommended to us and was very impressive throughout the interview process” said Coach Joe Davis. “He has been a part of elite defenses at the highest level of Division 1 football and will hold our players to high standards in the classroom, in the community and on the field.”
