Warren County is celebrating its 200th Anniversary this year. Warren County was created in 1825 but was not organized until 1830. The County is named after the late Dr. Joseph Warren, a hero of the American Revolution. Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards shares more Warren County History.

“When the county was organized in 1830, the first sheriff was Stephen Phelps. Since that time, I did kind of a count yesterday, there have been 40 sheriffs in Warren County, and kind of interestingly, when you look at the list, seven of them served subsequent terms, but not right behind the one they just served. I think that might have changed in the Constitution, 1970, but I don’t think they were able to succeed themselves in those days.”

Sheriff Edwards also asks anyone who may have old photographs or news articles involving the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to please send them to admin@warrencountyilsheriff.com.
