Class is back in session on the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb where 1,500 freshman and transfer students are calling WIU home. Vice President of Student Success Justin Schuch shares the top local high schools and community college recruits:
“Official numbers and everything won’t be solidified until the tenth day, but right now we have a number of ties for our top five high schools. Those include Macomb High School, United Township in the Quad Cities, Rock Island, Warsaw, Canton High School, West Prairie High School, and Moline that are all kind of fighting for the top five of students. Transfer students, Black Hawk College and Spoon River College are our two largest institutions, partner institutions where students are transferring from.”
Heading into this fall semester, Schuch explains the top majors of the incoming class and returning students on campus:
“For our freshman students, law enforcement and justice administration, agriculture, elementary education, nursing, and psychology round out the top five. For transfers, really similar, law enforcement, agriculture, and business programs are some of the top ones there. A lot of interest in those programs, as well as all the others that the institution offers.”
Between 5,200 and 5,300 students are enrolled at Western Illinois University this fall.
