Karrie Marie Thompson, 46, of Little York and Monmouth, Illinois, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend of many, died at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.
Karrie was born on August 30, 1979 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of David L. and Nannette M. (Hainds) Thompson. Following high school, Karrie attended Southeastern Community and Carl Sandburg College. She was currently completing her education degree in special education from Western Illinois University. Karrie began working at United School District in the kitchen, advancing through many roles eventually landing in the classroom where she found her true calling as a teacher. While completing her degree at WIU, she was driving a school bus for United School District and was also working for Knox Warren Special Ed as a paraprofessional and was getting ready to begin her student teaching. In her earlier years, Karrie worked for Country Financial in marketing, was a graphic designer for the Monmouth City Press, and owned and operated Mommy and Me Resale Store in Aledo for a time.
Karrie is survived by her mother, Nannette Torrance of Oquawka, Illinois; one daughter, Aubrey Jayde (Noah Northrup) Thompson of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two sons, Braxton David “little Pete” Thompson-Godoy of Burlington, Iowa and her grandpup Bo, and Maverick Grant Mackey at home in Monmouth; a bonus son, Anthony James (Alison) Powers of Davenport, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Logan Powers. Karrie is also survived by three brothers, David D. (Amy) Thompson, of Colona, Illinois, Chase (Becca) Torrance of Smithshire, Illinois, and Spencer (Megan) Torrance, with whom Karrie shared her birthday, of Oquawka, Illinois; two sisters, Kim (Robert) Brito of Tucson, Arizona and Rachel (Bob) Sparks of Joplin, Missouri; her significant other of over 15 years, Mike Mackey of Monmouth; a grandmother, Carolyn Thompson of Oquawka; and her bonus mom, Josie Goben of Aledo, Illinois. Karrie is preceded in death by her father, David, whom she cared for many years and has missed him deeply since his death in 2016. The family takes great comfort in knowing they are reunited. She is also preceded by her paternal grandfather, Daryl “Pete” Thompson; her great grandmother, Katherine Barker; maternal grandparents, Frances and Russell Hainds; her stepfather, Joe Torrance; and one sister, Lori Falenski.
Karrie was many things to many people. No matter what she could always find a way to make things happen. Karrie was loyal and often selfless to a fault. Her passion was teaching, especially children with disabilities. Her love, patience, and deep relationship with God, along with her generous and pure heart guided her life. Above all else, Karrie loved being a mother. Whether it was supporting her children in their school activities, camping, fishing, or hunting frogs with Maverick, or being a shoulder to lean on or a listening ear, Karrie was always there. Her death has left a void in the lives of all who knew her but her memory will carry on by all those loved her.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Oquawka, Illinois. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Baker will officiate. In honor of Karrie’s favorite color, please wear something orange. Burial will follow at Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka. Memorial contributions may be made to Aubrey or Braxton, for a scholarship fund to be established in Karrie’s memory.
