The automotive industry has been facing a shortage of service technicians as more workers retire than new graduates enter the field. This has caused local shops and independent dealers to scramble to find help. Agricultural service technicians are no exception, leading dealers such as Heritage Tractor to offer educational opportunities for those interested in joining the field, according to Recruiting Coordinator Amy Nelson.

“It’s hard to find good, solid, talented technicians. There’s a shortage, so we decided we needed to grow our own,” said Nelson.

“The Next Generation Program is a scholarship for those who would like to enroll in a two-year Diesel Power Systems program at a junior college. It’s very hands-on learning. Once they graduate, after two years of training, they walk into a career. We offer full tuition reimbursement, so all their tuition, books, and fees are paid back to them with a two-year commitment to us. We also provide a pretty generous tool allowance.”

The Next Generation Program is available to anyone looking to work as a service technician. More information can be found at HeritageTractor.com.
