The Monmouth Farmers Market is expected to make its return this summer.
Retired Monmouth College professors Craig Vivian and Craig Watson are helping bring the market back, with plans to hold it Friday evenings on the Monmouth Public Square. Watson says the newly renovated square makes it a great location for vendors and the community.
“With the city council’s recent blessing, we want to open on the square. We took our proposal to them a couple of weeks ago, and they were generously unanimous in their endorsement. It’s going to be right here in the square, in the northeast quadrant of the square, with stalls and booths. We hope to attract 8 to 10 to 12 vendors initially. Time and location are important, I think. The newly renovated square on a late Friday afternoon, with dining and drinking and music venues close at hand, makes an awful lot of sense.”
The market is anticipated to start June 19th and run on Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. into September. They are still looking for vendors; anyone interested can call 309-299-0401.
