Carl Sandburg Brings Oedipus to the Stage This Weekend

Carl Sandburg College will bring Oedipus to the stage tonight for the first of three performances this weekend.

The Sandburg Theater production is an adaptation of the classic Greek tragedy by Ellen McLaughlin, with the updated version helping modernize the story and make it easier for both the cast and audience to follow.

The cast and crew have spent around five weeks putting the production together ahead of opening night and Carl Sandburg student Aidan Nolan will play the lead role of Oedipus.

Nolan says the audience should allow themselves to get caught up in the story.

“I would say, this goes for theater in general, but especially for this, let yourself believe it. Let yourself fall into it. Forget that it’s a show. Let yourself believe it. Fall into it, and become part of the show.”

Performances will be held tonight and Saturday at 7:30 PM, with a final show Sunday afternoon at 2:30. All three performances will take place in the Sandburg Theater in the F Building on the Galesburg campus.

The show is free and open to the public, with donations welcome but not required.
