Former Monmouth College Record Setting Quarterback Going to Super Bowl

A former Monmouth College star quarterback turned NFL assistant coach is going to the Super Bowl. Alex Tanney, who played quarterback for the Fighting Scots from 2007-2011, broke numerous records during his time at Monmouth, including most touchdown passes in a single season with 50, and most touchdown passes in a Division III career with 157. Tanney also has the second most career passing yards by a Division III quarterback with 14,249.
Tanney went undrafted in the 2012 NFL draft, but would carve out a long 9 year career as a backup quarterback for multiple teams throughout the league. After his retirement from playing in 2021, Tanney was hired as an assisstant quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, an Eagles squad that is now on their way to Super Bowl 57 in Arizona, after routing the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. The Eagles will now do battle with the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs……the same team Tanney started his NFL career with in 2012.
