Monmouth Mayor Davies Raises Awareness on Cyber Stalking Through Proclamation for National Stalking Awareness Month

Share

January is National Stalking Awareness Month and during the latest Monmouth City Council meeting, Mayor Rod Davies read a proclamation to raise awareness on Cyber Stalking, explains Communications Director Ken Helms:

“It is one of the things that has changed over the years and started to become a little bit more prevalent. A number of people are affected by that. It would be, let’s say using an app that might be installed on an ex partners phone to track their location, maybe keeping a close eye on social media profiles to determine maybe where they are at different times. Then the suspect can run into the victim; just using the internet by primary means to determine someone’s location and keep where they are at.”

According to the proclamation presented through the Western Illinois Regional Council, one in three women and one in six men in the United States have experienced some form of stalking violence in their lifetime and 58% of women and 49% of men were first stalked before the age of 25.
