Ricky E. Hughes, 63, of Galesburg, died at 11:31 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born May 1, 1959, in Galesburg, the son of Eugene T. and Betty C. (Thompson) Hughes.  He was raised by his mother and step-father, David Moser.  He married Tracy Cook on June 28, 1996, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death March 29, 2019.

He is survived by three children, Holly Hughes, Crystal Gill, and Shawn Gill, all of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Nova, Lincoln, Charley, and Eli; his dog, Rudy; and several brothers and sisters.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Hughes and Betty and Dave Moser.

Rick was raised and educated in Abingdon, where he attended high school.  He worked in masonry for many years before becoming a driver for City Cab.  After retirement, Rick enjoyed being with family and spending days with his granddaughter, Nova.

Rick was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He was a music aficionado and enjoyed sharing and discussing music with others. 

Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate his life, there will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
