Fred Elliott Jr., age 97, of Oquawka, Illinois and formerly of Bartonville, Illinois; passed away on February 16, 2023 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Fred was born on August 11, 1925 in Winchester, Illinois and is the son of Fred and Mary Frances Furnough Elliott, Sr. He was raised in Winchester, Illinois where he attended country schools. After his schooling he entered service in the United States Army during World War II and was a Staff Sergeant in the headquarters company of the 6th Port Transportation Corps. On August 28, 1946 Fred married Betty Mae Waddington in Hannibal, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1998. Fred was employed for 30 years by Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville, in their galvanizing department. He retired in 1976 and loved to fish and be on the Mississippi river. As a hobby, Fred loved to fish and make hoop nets, used locally for fishing by many.  

Surviving him is one daughter Cathy Welch in Bartonville, Illinois and two grandchildren, Jodi Rhoades in Long View, Texas and Angie Triplett of Pacific, Missouri. His great grandson, Justin Triplett also is surviving. Fred is preceded in his death by his parents, his wife Betty, his daughter, Patricia Spenny, his grandson, Rick Rhoades, and his brother, Wayne Elliott.

A funeral services for Fred Elliott is planned on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment with Military honors will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton, Illinois. No visitation hours are currently planned, but a memorial fund is established for the Henderson County Humane Society.
