On February 15, 2023, at approximately 3:27 AM, Macomb Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of
E. Carroll St. for a domestic violence call for service. Family members fled the house after they believed
their dog was harmed by Timothy L. Smith (male, 39 years of age),the father and husband of the family
members. Family members relayed that Smith had been harming the family dog, threatening the family
members with a knife, and, at one point, grabbed and pushed family members around the house. It is
alleged Smith had kept the family members under his control and restrained their movements, for
several hours. The family members and family pet are currently in a safe location.
After police surrounded the house, Smith was eventually coaxed from the house and submitted to
arrest, without incident. Smith was charged with 2 Counts of Unlawful Restraint, 2 Counts Aggravated
Assault, 2 Counts Domestic Battery, and 1 Count Cruel Treatment to Animal.
All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This remains an active investigation and
there is no active threat to the Macomb community or surrounding communities.
