Asthma Medication Shortage Causing Major Concerns Among Physicians

Share

A new medication shortage is causing major issues.  Albuterol is used to treat asthma attacks.

“This is a medication that has been on the market for years. It is one of those medications for your asthma. It is one of the main drugs that we use for patients who are having acute symptoms. Without it, it could be extremely problematic, especially for the hospital systems.”

Dr. Erika Gonzalez, who is an asthma specialist, fears the drug shortage could worsen now that a major manufacturer shuttered three of its facilities.  That means there is only one domestic supplier left.  Doctors are calling on the FDA to help.
