Galesburg Fire Investigating Cause of Fire at Two-Story Structure

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 173 Garfield Avenue on February 27, 2023, at 12:06 PM. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire were showing from the front corner of the two-story structure. Battalion Chief David Farrell established command and the Central Station crew extinguished the fire with an attack line. One occupant had escaped by jumping from the second floor onto a deck. No injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. Preliminary damage estimates are at $10,000. The second floor sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators as well as Galesburg Police Department Detectives are still currently investigating the cause of the fire.
