H. Janet Brentise, age 81, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 7:35 AM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was born September 10, 1941 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Ezert and Edna Abigail (Bixler) Harris. Janet was raised in Monmouth and attended local schools here. On September 6, 1958, she married Vernon Glenn “Vern” Brentise in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2017.

Janet was a dedicated wife and mother. Providing a home cooked meal for her family was a nightly occurrence. Potatoes were a must at every meal, and Janet peeled 1000’s of potatoes in her lifetime. Fried chicken and apple pie were two of her specialties. Janet adored babies and small children, which led to her providing daycare in her home for over 30 years. Her hours were a bit unconventional by today’s standards; 5:00 AM-Midnight, and children could spend the night if necessary. Janet was also known to indulge in her favorite obsession, chocolate, each and every day!

Janet is survived by four daughters; Terri (Chet) Hippen of Kirkwood, IL, Verna Jean Crowl of Kansas City, MO, Toni Brown of Kansas City, MO, Nicole Brentise of Kansas City, MO, one sister, Carole (Paul) Reimolds of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Natalie (Jeff) Cole of Carthage, IL, Justin (Meranda) Crowl of Galesburg, IL, Jamey (Jennifer) Crowl of East Moline, IL, and Stephanie (Kapody Johnson) Brown of Kansas City, MO, and seven great-grandchildren; Sedona and Sawyer Cole, Emma and Ellie Crowl, Dylan (Ashlyn) Crowl, and Lorali and Charlette Brown. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern, daughter Rhonda Brentise, two sisters; Lucy and Annabelle, and one brother, Charles.

As were Janet’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A private family memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to Legacy Estates in Monmouth or Western Illinois Animal Rescue in Monmouth. Janet’s family would like to thank the staff at Legacy Estates and Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service for the valiant care given to their mother.
