Jackie Joyner-Kersee Named U of I Commencement Speaker

Six-time Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee will serve as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s commencement this spring.  Graduation will be held May 13th at Memorial Stadium.  Joyner-Kersee competed in four different Olympic games in track and field.  She is the first woman to win back-to-back gold medals in the heptathlon and is the first African American woman to win an Olympic medal in the long jump.  Joyner-Kersee grew up in East St. Louis.
