Sen. Anderson Files Bill to Allow 3-year Hunting and Fishing License Renewals

Share

State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) recently filed Senate Bill 1232 which would allow outdoorsmen and women the ability to renew their hunting and fishing licenses every three years instead of every year. Additionally, the legislation provides the ability to obtain one combined license for the two.

“Year after year, our sportsmen and women have been inconvenienced by having to renew their hunting and fishing license each year,” said Senator Anderson. “This is a simple way that we can make it just a little bit easier for people to enjoy their favorite outdoor activities.”

Currently, a person can only buy a one-year or lifetime license with no option in between. Senate Bill 1232 allows a convenient 3-year option. While there is no discount to purchasing a 3-year license, it does provide a better and easier alternative to many individuals, said Sen. Anderson.

The bill would also allow Gold Star Families the ability to obtain a free hunting or fishing license. Gold Star Families are immediate relatives of the U.S. Armed Forces members who died in battle or in support of certain military activities. Also, those over 65 years of age would have the option to obtain licenses at half the cost.

Senate Bill 1232 currently sits in the Senate Agriculture Committee waiting to be called.
