Farmers Across the State Rallied at IL Capitol for Disadvantaged Farmer Grant Program

Black farmers from around the state rallied at the capitol this week for a series of bills that would increase the amount of food purchased by state operations to be from socially disadvantaged farmers and to finally bring $5 million in funding to a disadvantaged farmer grant program. State Rep. Sonya Harper says in the past when agriculture policy has been discussed at the state house it’s been large commodity crop farms that often get the attention.
