Stanley E. Gregory, 77, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 4:22 am, Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice Home, Bettendorf, IA.

Stan was born November 21, 1945 in Rock Island, IL the son of Floyd L. and Jean E. (Dahl) Gregory.  He was raised and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1963. Stan served with the United States Army Reserves. He attended Western Illinois University before returning home to the family farm. Stan married Brenda Arp on June 18, 1966 at the Zion Lutheran Church in North Henderson, and she survives.

Stan farmed his entire life on the family farm west of Alexis.  He also owned and operated Gregory Real Estate and Auction in Alexis for over 40 years.

Stan was a lifelong member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church where he served as both Elder and Trustee.  He served on the Norwood Cemetery Board and was a member of the Mercer County Fair Board. He was a founding member of the Alexis Men’s Club, which sponsored the Steve McBride Scholarship for Alexis High School graduates

Stan raised Duroc hogs for many years, but his greatest love was his Angus cattle.  Growing up he loved showing his 4-H calves at the local and state fairs as well as the International Livestock Show in Chicago. He loved playing football, baseball and later softball. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends.  Stan loved his community, and was instrumental in several of the Alexis Centennial Events and Alexis Progress Shows as a member of the Alexis Jaycees. 

He loved being a farmer, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them especially attending his grandchildren’s numerous events.  He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Gregory; his children, Kristina (Grant) Eaton of Acworth, GA., Steve (Dana) Gregory and Jeff (Heather) Gregory both of Alexis; his 6 grandchildren, Jared (Natalie) Eaton, Claire Gregory, Anne Gregory, Vada Gregory, Max Gregory and Jack Gregory. Also surviving is his sister, Terry Anderson of Alexis, numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church, rural Alexis, IL.  Interment will be at Norwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 pm Sunday, April 16, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Memorials may be given to the Mercer County Ag Society or the Norwood Cemetery Association and sent to the funeral home.
