Illinois Beef Association: Beef Continues To Outpace Other Proteins

Over the last few years, beef has been faced with challenges such as historic prices, supply chain issues, and consumer uncertainty about the future. Despite these challenges, Illinois Beef Association Vice President Dave Duzan says beef continues to hold its own when compared to other proteins.

“Beef continues to outpace the other proteins as far as a preference for consumers,” said Duzan. “Last year, 70 percent of consumers surveyed said they eat beef at least once a week. Steak sales and ground beef continue to be the driver of those prices.”

According to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association “Today’s Beef Consumer” report, fresh ground beef accounted for 50 percent of beef sales.
