Steven Charles Shotts, 67, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 3:10 a.m. surrounded by his family.

Steve was born September 21, 1955 in Peoria, Illinois to Samuel and Aline (Gilbert) Shotts. They preceded him in death.

Steve married Cynthia Cervantez on September 4, 1985 in Galesburg, Illinois. She survives with their three sons, Andrew of Galesburg, Patrick of Airway Heights, Washington, and Thomas (Amber) of Galesburg. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Steven and Dylan of Airway Heights and Ariana of Galesburg; and his brother, Samuel (Beth) of Highland Village, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Steve graduated from Galesburg High School in 1973, then backpacked throughout the US. He then enlisted in the US Army. He was a member of the Hook and Bullet Club where he enjoyed many outdoor activities. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his sons and grandchildren. He was a proud member of AA and celebrated 16 years of sobriety. Steve enjoyed reading, listening to music, and engaging family and friends with stories of the past and his outlook on life.

He converted to Catholicism and happily renewed his vows with Cyndi at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Deus-Dedit Byabato officiating. Military honors for Steve will be conducted at the church following mass by the Knox County Honor Guard. Private family graveside services will be at a later date.
