Delbert Simpson, Sr. age 76, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 4:20 PM on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Royal Oaks Nursing Home in Kewanee, Illinois. He was born on November 18, 1946 in Richmond, Kentucky, the son of Richard Howard and Beatrice (Benge) Simpson. Delbert attended schools in both Galesburg and Monmouth, Illinois. On May 21, 1994, he married Laura Richey in Roseville, Illinois and she survives. Delbert was previously married to Diana (Walters) Simmons. Delbert worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. He also helped his brother with tree work, worked for a time at Robbins Pallets, and most recently provided lawn care in the area. Delbert liked music, U.S. History, road trips and traveling. He was a talented artist that drew, sketched, and painted. Mostly, he loved his family and spending time with them.

Delbert is survived by his wife Laura of Monmouth, IL, two daughters, Erin Richey of Galesburg, IL and Trina (Dustin Pettigrew) of Roseville, IL, five sons, Delbert “Jay” (Deana Gipson) Simpson, Jr. of Kirkwood, IL, Dion (Chris) Simpson of Aledo, IL, Zach (Janice Neff) Simpson of Stronghurst, IL, Trent (Amber) Richey of Roseville, IL, and Jordan (Beth Babin) Simpson of Bloomington, IL, one sister Caroline, and three brothers, Paul, Mason, and David. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and on granddaughter, Jaylene Adams.

As were his wishes, cremation is being accorded. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Inurnment at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, Illinois will be at a later date. A memorial fund is being established and will be announced shortly.
