Patricia “Pat” Carol Root, age 93, of Rockwood, TN, died on Friday, June 16,2023 at NHC Healthcare in Farragut, TN.

She was born on November 29, 1929, in Racine, WI, the only daughter of Lester and Seena Mau.  She enjoyed living in Wisconsin near all her cousins and family until she moved to Davenport, IA, in 1947.  She graduated from Davenport High School in 1948.  Upon graduation, she went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Davenport.  She was employed there for 18 years in several different positions including telephone operator, clerk, stenographer, and for the last 10 years, she was the business office supervisor and the district instructor.

On February 1, 1964, she married William (Bill) F. Root.  They lived in Rock Island, IL, for the first several years of their marriage.  On February 4, 1966, they welcomed their only daughter Rebecca (Becki).  In 1973 when they moved to Monmouth to be closer to Bill’s farm.  Pat lived in Monmouth until the Fall of 2021, when she moved to South Elgin to be close to her daughter.  Then in September of 2022, Pat moved to Tennessee when Becki and her husband Ryan built a new home there.

When living in Monmouth, Pat was an active member of the First Lutheran Church.  She was on many committees there and was a member of the Church Council.  She also enjoyed being a part of the Hospital Auxiliary, the Republican Women’s Club, and the Warren County Historic Society.  She and her husband Bill were members and substitutes for many different card clubs, and they loved attending the concert series and other events at Monmouth College. She made amazing pies and was a great cook!

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becki and Ryan Kometer, and her grandchildren, Christopher and Taylor Lanciloti, and Jonathan Kometer.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Seena, and by her husband, Bill. 

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, IL.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.  Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in remembrance of Pat to First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
