United Red Storm Football Working Hard to Get Back to Playoffs; Looking Forward to New Conference

The United Red Storm football program is working hard this summer to get themselves back into the postseason hunt this fall. The Red Storm are coming off a (2-7) season in 2022 after making the playoffs in 2021. Head coach of United, David Milroy, gave an update on the football program’s summer schedule at the recent Halfway to Freezing for Food event.

The Red Storm football program will be in its first year of a new, yet familiar, football conference this fall. With the leaving of some schools from the Lincoln Trail and Prairieland Conferences to participate in 8-man football, a new LincolnLand Conference was formed. The combining of the two conferences makes scheduling easier and will also keep previous long-time school rivalries intact. There will be a small school and a large school division.

The small school division will have nine teams, including Abingdon-Avon, Annawan/Wethersfield, Havana, Princeville, ROWVA/Williamsfield, Rushville-Industry, South Fulton, Stark County and United.

The Large School Division will have eight teams made up of Elmwood/Brimfield, Farmington, Illini West, Knoxville, Macomb, Mercer County, West Hancock and the LVC co-op, which is the combination of the Lewistown and North Fulton school districts.

To fill out the nine-game schedule, the Small School Division will play each team within their division and then cross-over for one game against the Large School Division. The Large School Division will do the same, but will also have to find an opponent to fill out their nine-game schedule. Macomb will play Breese Mater Dei, while Knoxville will take on Fulton and Mercer County will play Peru St. Bede. The 2023 season gets underway on August 25th.
