Berta Mae Adams, 87, of Galesburg, formerly of Prairie City, Illinois, died peacefully Monday July 17, 2023 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.

Berta was born May 4, 1936 in Farmville, Virginia the daughter of Joseph Sweeney and Ola Mae (Meadows) Meadows. Berta married Paul Oliver Adams on October 6, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina. Berta worked in the tobacco fields until moving to Prairie City, Illinois in 1958. She remained in Prairie City until she moved to Galesburg in 2017. Berta is survived by one son, Randy Adams of Ottawa, Illinois; three daughters, Dorothy (Thomas) Boughton of Galesburg, Brenda (Mike) Kirby of Bushnell, and Joyce (Terry) Coons of Bushnell; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Berta was a longtime time member of the First Baptist Church in Prairie City. She was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to her garden. Most of all, Berta loved to care for people and would always put together a meal for anyone who came to her house.

Cremation has been accorded. A prayer service will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg with visitation following until 6:00 p.m. Private burial of cremated remains will the at the Prairie City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
